This image of Tatiana (model release on file) was taken as a part of a 1950's style photo shoot that was a culmination of photographers and models who just wanted to get together on a Sunday morning to increase their portfolios and have some fun making really great images at the Lakewood Heritage Center in Lakewood Colorado. The Lakewood Heritage Center showcases the history of Lakewood and the many changes, inventions and lifestyles of the 20th century. Located in Belmar Park, the museum has over 10 historic structures, 30,000 artifacts, a festival area and an outdoor amphitheater.Time
This image was actually taken during the the worst part of the day possible for anyone who knows, normally I would not schedule a around mid-day with the sun directly over head. This shot was take right around noon, thankfully we had a light cloud cover creating the best soft-box you could ever want.Lighting
The mid-day sun can be brutal creating shadows on areas of the face that are not wanted as well as squinting eyes from the people we want to shoot, our only saving grace was the light cloud cover we experienced that created wonderful light from all directions.Equipment
My go to camera at the time and still is apart of the equipment I carry to shoots was the Canon EOS 50D. The lens that was used it the ever trusty 70-200mm f/2.8 Canon L lens original version non-IS. The shot was taken at 100 ISO, Aperture value of f/3.2, with a shutter speed of 1/320th of a second, at 110mm. I usually shoot in manual mode with spot metering and spot focus.Inspiration
My inspiration to take this image, as well as any other image I take is to remember the day and share it with others, be it an ruff and tumble soccer match with a battle to the end. Or an amazing lightning storm that just rocks your world. An early morning balloon lift with family. Or a gentle time with friends. They are all memories and story's that can be remembered with single or multiple images.Editing
There was not much post processing done on this image, Slight touch ups in Photoshop to remove blemishes, a little bit of eye brightening, some smoothing to her face and neck. The rest was accomplished in Light correction and conversion to B&W.In my camera bag
I carry way too much with me, I tend to shoot many different types of images, sports, nature, and people. The normal complement of equipment I carry are as follows. Bodies: Canon 5D M II, Canon 7D, Canon 50D. Lenses: Canon 300mm f/4, Canon 70-200mm F/2.8, Canon 50mm f/1.8 (aka the Nifty Fifty), Canon 16-35mm f/2.8, Tamron 17-50mm f/2.8 vc. Flash: Canon 550ex Lots of CF Cards Extra Set of batteries for each body.Feedback
I don not suggest the "spray and pray" mind set, but with that said if you know your camera and get your settings right for the conditions that you are shooting in the more photos you take the better chance you will have to get some really amazing images. This was an promptitude image, Tatiana was not looking at me or posing for me, she was looking at another photographer at the time. Some times the best images are not poses they are merely a brief moment in time captured forever.
