This photo was taken across the Tidal Basin in Washington DC. I am a self taught photographer and have learned most of my skills from photography friends, camera clubs, photo workshops and YouTube.Time
This is one of my favorite images and was taken during a February evening blue hour. I was on a sunset photoshoot with friends near Jefferson Memorial. The sunset wasn't very exciting and afterwards I decided to take a walk around the Tidal Basin. My eyes were captured by this scene.Lighting
It was the blue hour that added the mood to the scene with lit government buildings surrounded by whitish Washington Monument and Jefferson Memorial with their reflections in blue waters of the Tidal Basin under blue skies.Equipment
I was using Canon 5D Mark iii with Canon EF 24-105 lens on a tripod. ISO 250, 32 mm, f/14, 2.5 sec +/- 1 stopInspiration
As soon as my eyes caught the scene, I knew that I had to take it. Two iconic monuments, geographically considerable distance apart, and their reflections around other DC buildings with a totally blue above and below background spoke for themselves.Editing
I've used Photomatix HDR software to blend the 3 bracketed images in order to increase the dynamic range and then did fine tuning using Lightroom. In my camera bag
Since then, I've switched from Canon 5DMiii to Sony full frame mirrorless A7Rii. I liked my Canon but Sony offers number of advantages including considerably larger dynamic range, lower noise at high ISO, focus peaking, EVF, size and weight. So now my gear includes Sony A7Rii, Sony FE 24-70 mm F/4, Sony FE 16-35 mm F/4, Sony 24-240 mm lenses, Hoya circular polarizer, Hoya neutral density filters (0.3, 0.6, 3.0), Xume lens adapters and filter holders, MeFOTO Globe Trotter carbon fiber tripod, Sony wireless remote commander.Feedback
Don't be discouraged if your planned photoshoot doesn't work out. Keep your eyes open in front, behind, below, above and sides. Chances are that something unplanned is lurking out there if you let yourself see it.
