Inspiration

i was riding on a trailer pulled by an ATV driven by my guide from Silver Salmon Creek Lodge, a young lady from Montana. She and her husband were primarily fly fishing guideS, but she has been “pressed into service as a,bear photography guide thart day. We were enroute to the beach to see if there were any bears digging and feeding on clams. Suddenly, this juvenile (4-to 6-year old) brown bear came out of the brush in front of and to our left. My guide immediately stopped our forward motion, as required by national park regulations. The young bear didn’t stop, but kept slowly walking toward us....as if he were “pushing to test.” We both stood up to make ourselves seem larger to the bear. That failed to deter the bear, which kept approaching us. It suddenly stopped, and I snapped this photo as my guide was reaching for her bear spray. The bear was about 12 feet from me and about 8 feet from my guide. (That’s why I entitled the photo “Way Too Close.”) the bearI stared at us for a few seconds (seemed much longer to me), and then calmly ambled across the dirt path in front of us and back into the brush. He was a young bear, but could have done us q lot of damage. We were both breathing sighs of relief as we started toward the beach.

Editing

I can’t remember doing much other than cropping....didn’t need to.

In my camera bag

Only a few filters, an extra memory card and battery, a bottle of water, and a shower cap to keep my camera dry.
