Behind The Lens

Location

This was taken at the Los Angeles Department of Water and Power (LADWP) building in downtown L.A.

Time

Lighting

We were fortunate to have a gorgeous sunset that produced, among others, this lovely violet hue that contrasted so well with the yellow building lights. Bump the vibrance and the saturation a bit in Lightroom, and voila!

Equipment

I shot this with my first DSLR, a Nikon d3200 with the kit 18-55 lens and on a tripod lowered to it's maximum depth. I love it that this was one of my earliest forays into photography, with a low end lens and camera. I find it very encouraging and hope it encourages others to explore their art without the expectation that you have to spend a ton of money in order to get beautiful pics.

Inspiration

A friend of mine and I shot a variety of locations that night and were playing with long exposures. I had seen some shots from this location and knew I wanted to capture some of my own.

Editing

Yes. Using Lightroom, I increased vibrance and saturation and the did some selective smart sharpening in Photoshop.

In my camera bag

Nikon D750 with a Nikkor 70-200 lens plus my D3200 with a Tamron wide angle. I also carry the 18-55 kit lens and a 50mm prime.
