Behind The Lens

Location

I remember when I posted this photo on my Instagram, many of my followers mentioned that they imagined it had been taken in a dark forest or by a haunted castle or in other magical places. In all honesty, I took this photo through my living room window. That's the thing I love about nature photography, you never know when or where you'll find something worth photographing. Sometimes you just have to look out of your window!

Time

I took this photo on a very gray afternoon during late fall.

Lighting

There was barely any daylight left at this point so getting any decent shots was challenging, especially since the bird was quite far away.

Equipment

I used Canon eos 7D mark II and Sigma 150-600mm to take this photo.

Inspiration

I thought the contrast between the gray surroundings and the red berries looked beautiful and as soon as I saw some crows landing on the tree I ran to get my camera haha.

Editing

I do a lot of post-processing to all my photos, mostly in Lightroom and Photoshop. Usually, when I'm taking a photo, I already have a vision of how I want it to look like after post-processing. In this case I instantly knew I wanted to make the redness of the berries stand out even more without adding too much color to the image. I added some hues of green and blue to the background and made the image darker so the focus was fully on the crow and the berries.

In my camera bag

Most of the time when I go out photographing I only take my Canon 7D mark II and Sigma 150-600mm lens with me. Obviously it limits you a lot if you want to take landscape photos, but personally I'm usually more interested in photographing wildlife and feel happy just to look at the landscapes with my own eyes.
