A special thanks to friend and professional photographer Matt Suess for his collaborations as a guest judge: "For the first 17 years of my career I was a photojournalist based in New England. I am a digital photography pioneer and began teaching digital photography to photojournalists in the late 90’s, helping bring digital cameras to two different newspapers. I was awarded the 2003 New England Press Associations Photographer of the Year award for my work at the Cape Cod Times. During my time as a photojournalist, I also photographed weddings & portraits, as well as corporate & commercial assignments. I teach numerous field & classroom workshops throughout the year as well as online courses and I provide occasional free online webinars. You may have already seen my videos for software companies such as Skylum and ON1. My passion for sharing and teaching what I have learned during my long career is evident in my down-to-earth and encouraging approach with my clients."

Grand Jury Winner

"This image really stood out with this photographer’s choice of black and white and the perfect composition. I love the dramatic tones achieved here with the photographer’s creative control of whites and dark blacks. It was a lucky day for this photographer with the clouds moving in harmony with the static boats, and this photo showcases the excellent vision this photographer had both in the field and in the digital darkroom in pulling off this award-winning shot." - Matt Suess

Runner Up

"This is a very impressive Milky Way panorama that showcases the photographers' skill at photographing the night sky in a challenging environment. The composition is well done, the tricky balancing of light was impressive and I loved the small pockets of light behind the town, and the processing on the night sky is extremely well done in showcasing the arc of the Milky Way." - Matt Suess

Runner Up

"What a monster of a photo this photographer was able to get! I love the dirt road bringing your eye right into the center of the storm, and the color and texture of the sky truly show off the power and beauty of this particular storm. I can almost see and feel the wind as I look at this image." - Matt Suess
