Location
This photo was taken on my window sill. Attached to the window is a cat hammock, which was the only place my cat would relax and stay still.Time
This photo was taken on an early winter day.Lighting
I love the natural glow of the morning sun so I woke up early to achieve a natural look. The snow outside acted like a giant light reflector.Equipment
This was shot on a Nikon Z6 using a 24-70mm lens. I also used a small, square handheld mirror to create the reflection.Inspiration
I used a prompt word,“circles,” from Paul Michael Kane’s Lightbox photography cards. I took a class with him and these cards are great for when you have a creative block.Editing
This photo didn’t need too much post processing. I mainly just brightened up the photo to see the details on the black fur, while showcasing the texture. Since the eyes are considered the windows to the soul, I also brightened them up, trying to show as much detail as possible. In my camera bag
My Nikon Z6 is always on hand. Also in my bag is my 24-70mm lens, with some prism lens attachments to make some interesting effect straight from the camera. A mirror is something I never leave without because I’m obsessed with playing around with reflections and finding new and interesting ways to capture many different kinds of reflections.Feedback
To capture any animals, patience is a must. Plan for it to take longer than you expect. Also, having toys or a treat handy can be beneficial.
