Location
This photo was taken near Miramichi in New Brunswick, Canada. I was driving along the highway. My camera is always on the front seat beside me. When I came to this stand of trees, it stood out to me. I decided that after I finished my business in town, I would stop and take a photo on my way home.Time
It was late afternoon. I pulled off to the side of the highway, walked along the side of the road until I found what looked like a fairly uniform stand of trees. All I had was the 300m zoom lens that was attached to my camera and no tripod. I had to cross the highway, climb down the rather steep ditch and up the other side so as to be far enough away from the stand of trees to capture an interesting arrangement and to be at the same elevation.Lighting
The lighting was perfect, a moderately overcast sky, late afternoon in November.Equipment
I was old school that day. My camera was a Nikon D300s. I spend a lot of time walking in the woods in all weather and I have found this camera to be almost indestructable. The 300m zoom lens is as much as I can carry on long trecks.Inspiration
I had passed this location many times in all seasons and weather over the years. Every time I drove by, I told myself I should stop and make a photo. It seemed each time I had no time or did not want to inconvenience my passengers with my passion for photographing anything and everything. On this day, I was alone, in no rush and the conditions could not have been more perfect.Editing
Yes, I did some post processing. I use Light Room on all of my photos, increasing tones, highlights, exposure, sharpening and any other features that give effects that I like. I like to think I make pictures rather than take pictures. In my camera bag
Most of the time, I carry the D 300s with a zoom lens, because it is versatile and practical for my nature walks. My other cameras are a Nikon 750 full frame with a variety of prime and zoom lenses and my travel camera is a Sony A7ii.Feedback
Always carry a camera. The most disappointing feeling is to be in the right place at the right time without a camera. Any camera is better than none.
