Location
In a friend's garden in Aberdeenshire, ScotlandTime
Midday on 3 August 2020Lighting
I don't know exactly why the background looks like it does. The white patches are flower-heads and the green, yellow and oranges are other plants. The light came from the sun behind clouds, so it was bright, diffused light.Equipment
Canon PowerShot G15 on it's widest lens setting for a close focus. That's all.Inspiration
My friend has a beautiful garden that is often visited by many butterflies and bees, so it was great to finally get a photo of one of them.Editing
Colour and curves. In my camera bag
Canon PowerShot G15. It is super cheap (£100) because it is a few years old but it works perfectly for me, even with a miniature sensor, because it can focus close enough for reasonable macro performanceFeedback
If you have a small sensor like me, it is worth trying to find a suitable background that suits the subject and can be defocused.
