Location
This was taken in the industrial part of Teesside in the UK where I liveTime
The shot was taken around 10.30 on a clear night just days before the UK went into lockdown beacause of the Covid pandemic back in 2020Lighting
I was wondering how the foreground would look but there was some nice light available from the industrial works that got picked up when taking the 20 second exposure on the pipes. I did have to up the exposure in Photoshop a little to get a nice balance for the final imageEquipment
I used a Canon 70d, a Canon 10-22mm wide angle lens and a Neewer tripod with a shutter release cableInspiration
I love the industrial sky line that Teesside has. Many people would frown upon it but I think its beautiful, its a great contrast to the wonderful countryside we have as well in the area so I think as a photographer I am lucky for these parts of our area. I did take this shot back in my early days learning photography and the on that occasion it wasn't a clear night so I waited a long time to go back when the conditions were right.Editing
I used Photoshop to edit the image. I increased the exposure for the foreground and increased the shadows to bring the detail out on the pipes. For the background I reduced the highlights, again to get some more detailIn my camera bag
I have a Canon 70d, a Canon 10-22mm wide angle lens, a Tokina 11-16mm f2.8 wide angle lens, a Canon 50mm f.18 lens and a Sigma 18-300mm Macro lens. I also have a set of ND Grad Filters, polarisers and 10 stop filters.Feedback
Take different exposures so you can find the right balance in the shot, I find this helps in the editing process.
