Behind The Lens
Location
This was a photo taken in our backyard. We have several hanging plants on the outside edge of our patio with several trees and additional plants around the yard which provided some good background colors and lights.Time
I often sit outside on the patio in the mornings with camera in hand waiting for our daily visits from local birds.Lighting
All natural light in mid-morning.Equipment
This was shot with a Sony Alpha 77mk II camera using my favorite lens at the time-Sigma 18 - 300 f3.5-6.3. I shot handheld in Continuous Mode while sitting on the patio.Inspiration
I love trying to catch animals and people in action. Since our flowers were blooming with such wonderful colors and the hummingbirds were plentiful...it was a perfect opportunity to greet the morning with great anticipation (and my favorite morning drink-hot chai latte.)Editing
I usually shoot in raw and organize and process photos in Lightroom. Then I'll move into PS CC to make any additional fixes and cropping. When done, I save as a jpg.In my camera bag
Eight years ago I got more serious about my photography and purchased a Sony A55...I then moved to A77mkII. I just recently put a Sony Mirrorless Camera (7Riv) in my bag with the Sony 24-240 f3.5-6.3 lens. I like that I can use Canon lenses with an adapter with this camera, so I can now shoot with the Canon 100-400 f4.5-5.6 Ultrasonic lens which my wife and I already owned.Feedback
Experiment with Continuous Mode and Single Shot Mode. I learn more and more when shooting Single Shot Mode trying to freeze the subject with the best light. However, it is really fun shooting Continuous Mode and "getting lucky" sometimes with some great expressions on the subject. Either way, enjoy the chase and challenge of shooting wildlife and the "not so wild" Hummingbird.
