Location
This picture was taken in a former residence, located in Camp Lejeune, North Carolina. I was sitting in the living room when my cat, Bad Kitty, had just woken up and was still a bit out of sorts.Time
My calico’s name is Bad Kitty, and she got that name for her high energy and mischievous behavior, so she is not frequently sitting still. It happened to be early evening and she had just woken up, still mostly lethargic from her nap, I knew there may never be a better opportunity to catch her in such a pose that she actually looked thoughtful instead of devilish. This is by far my favorite photo I have ever taken of her.Lighting
This was such an impromptu shot that I didn’t have any more than a few moments to turn on a soft glow lamp in the living room. Still learning the ins and outs to photography, I believe that I happened to get lucky, and everything just fell into place at this moment for the shot.Equipment
While I own a simple camera on my beginner’s adventure in to the world of photography, the only camera I had access to at that moment was my iPhone. The picture was taken in color using portrait mode.Inspiration
The inspiration for this picture was instantaneous, as the moment was fleeting. Bad Kitty had such a human-like expression when I took this photo. Looking at her in this picture, she appears both stoic and contemplative.Editing
I use an app called Warmlight. While it has filters like many other apps, it also has a strong set of tools that allows me to edit the picture to my liking. In this case obviously desaturation, but also exposure, contrast, saturation, and brightness until I reached the final composition. In my camera bag
I am new to photography, and learning through doing. I don’t own fancy equipment. Right now I use an old Nikon Coolpix L120 and my iPhone. Despite all the auto settings that the Coolpix has, it still allows be to manually adjust some of the settings, so I look at it like a camera with training wheels. I recently purchased my first 6’ collapsible tripod, and it’s been exciting to use, as I never have to worry about missing out on a shot do to unsteady hands.Feedback
I feel as though right now I haven’t gained enough experience to offer anything more than always keep any camera type nearby so you don’t miss a moment you wish you’d captured.
