This photo was shot at my stable in Willoughby Hills, OH. Its across the street from our metroparks so it's an incredibly serene and peaceful area. A lot of pine trees and nature!Time
It was early evening, before golden hour but it was snowing and the sun kept poking out between flurries, it made for decent lighting.Lighting
The clouds were a natural soft box that day, the sun would come out for a few minutes and then hide behind clouds again, a lot of back and forth. Right here it was during a transition back to hiding.Equipment
Canon 6D and Sigma 50 1.4, thats it!Inspiration
Winter was coming to an end, I had just moved my horses to the new stable and well, my horse pictured is incredibly unique. All of this combined made me really pumped to go out and capture some shots if my girl playing in the fresh snow at her new home!Editing
Yes, Radial filters were added to accentuate the lighting of the day, I always enhance her eyes although they do really look like that! No snow added this time! Split tones to warm the image the slightest bit. This image actually has minimal post processing done to it.In my camera bag
Canon 6D or Mark III, 50 1.4 & 85 1.4 I used to always have a 70-200 2.8 in my bag but currently saving for a replacement, that lens is a god for shooting horses!Feedback
Patience, Horses are highly sensitive animals and you most be soft, gentle and kind in their presence. Talk to them, and when you move around them, move like you are part of the herd. Often times people try to be sneaky or overly cautious and then you get horses that are suspicious and anxious rather than calm and un-phased. Play with your angles until you get a good perspective, same with the lighting, move around a bit!
