Behind The Lens

Location

I took this photo in the International terminal of LAX, waiting to board a plane to Copenhagen for my first solo-travel trip.

Time

Midmorning.

Lighting

I love airport lighting - the light was reflecting beautifully off the planes into the terminal.

Equipment

This was shot on a Sony RX 100 iV, which is a great camera for travel photography.

Inspiration

After receiving a cancer diagnosis a few weeks prior, I decided to embark on a 6 week backpacking adventure in Europe. I was sitting in the airport, healing from surgery and nervous about the path ahead. I wanted to mark this moment - a huge transition point in my life. In a way the backpack represents how I decided to only take the essentials into the next stage of life, and the open seats are the blank slate of my future, ready to be filled.

Editing

Yes, I did some standard Lightroom processing - I softened the toe in the blacks, and boosted the mids to highlight the texture in the backpack.

In my camera bag

My favorite gear is a 24mm Prime lens with a Canon 6D - a simple, clean set up for beautiful photos.
