Location
This photo was taken in the city of Chefchaouen, Morocco in July, 2018. The whole reason I went is because it is a blue city and has doors everywhere, and I'm kind of obsessed with doors! And Alleyways, there are lots of them too!Time
This shot was taken about 9:15am. It was already very bright out but the open shade provided some nice luminosity to the shot, esp. on the walls surrounding the door.Lighting
Just natural light. I am a big fan of less is more in terms of gear and lighting!Equipment
This was shot with a Nikon D700 and a 16-35mm lens at 35mm 1/320 f/5.6Inspiration
There were doors everywhere! It was a door enthusiast and photographer dream. I liked this door for it's curves, simplicity and all the blending blue hues. I also like the contrasting stone step. it is very visually appealing :)Editing
I played around with the clarity, highlights and shadows and straightened slightly. I added a slight vignette to highlight the door and the luminosity of the image, I just 'popped' the image to bring out the colours how I see them at their best.In my camera bag
It really depends what I am shooting. if it's people: my 50mm is my workhorse and I will have my 16-35 too. If I am shooting some nature stuff I will have my 70-200 on my crop sensor D300 to maximize the telephoto. I will sometimes use this lens for street shooting events too. I really like to have the minimum equipment so it's usually the D700 and the 50mm and sometimes one more lens too.Feedback
For doors in general, just wander around your area. There are cool door everywhere. For this particular location, Chefchaouen, I flew into Tangiers, Morocco (which also has amazing doors and streets) and then took a private taxi to Chefchaouen. You can book it online. It was about 2.5 hours away and worth the trip. The city is in the Rif mountains, so you will also see amazing mountains shrouded in mist in the mornings. Just wander and explore. Get lost. It's safe and you will always find your way back to where you are staying.
