Behind The Lens

Location

This photo was taken on Blyth Pier, Northumberland

Time

It was taken early evening.

Lighting

The lighting was quite tricky as it was heading towards twilight. The bright sky was a challenge.

Equipment

Canon EOS 6d mkii EF70-200mm f/2.8L IS II USM lens Handheld no flash

Inspiration

This is Anna, who is a talented young ballet dancer and athlete. She was interested in having some photographs taken of different poses, so we chose an outdoor location and waited until we had a nice weather evening and this was one of the shots.

Editing

I used dehaze to bring out the colours in the sky and did a little work in raising the shadows to get some detail from Anna's black leotard.

In my camera bag

I usually carry two camera, one with a wide angle lens, and the other with a zoom lens, to enable me to capture different scenes without having to change lenses.

Feedback

If you're planning on shooting something similar, it's worth having a dry run beforehand to make your shoot more of a success, use a similar type of night with the same locations, this will give you a better idea of the lighting conditions, and if taking action shots, the speed and settings that will be most favourable.
