Behind The Lens

Location

It was taken in a friend's law office. She was gracious enough to give us the space for a few hours, and my niece was patient enough to sit for the session.

Time

I took it during a Saturday morning, in the law office, while it was (mostly) empty.

Lighting

I had natural light from a window behind me, and wonderful colors in the tile. It mirrored the pattern in her shirt.

Equipment

I shot it handheld with a Canon 6D, mounted with a Canon 24/70 L Mark II lens.No flash was necessary, as there was natural light from a skylight and window behind me.

Inspiration

Colors and pattern echo in her shirt made the shot a must have. I was pleased with the colors and the pattern. She is a beautiful young lady, and very patient.

Editing

Yes, I used LR with basic global adjustments on clarity and vibrance. Then I bumped the blue to enhance the tile and boost the contrast.

In my camera bag

Canon 6D, 24/70 Canon Mark II, Canon 70/300 IS zoom and my nifty 50. I carry filters as necessary.

Feedback

Don't ignore the simple patterns that repeat around you. Always change your perspective and look for the echoes of color and pattern. Be aware of the angle of light and make use of the available light. Whatever you do, take time when the camera is in your hands- be patient until you get the angle and view you want.
