Location
This was taken at Grand Central Station in New York City. It's a photo I can reminisce on, shot back in December of 2013 when we were on our way to Europe for three weeks of traveling.Time
This was shot in the morning, around 830 am when there are always quite a few travelers going through the station.Lighting
I remember it being pretty gray outside so the majority of the lighting is from indoor artificial lights. I think it was somewhat of a bonus for me since it created a warm atmosphere inside.Equipment
This was shot with a Canon 50D and a Canon EFS 10-22mm lens. I am on a tripod as well. I'm not sure if it's still the same but one rule at Grand Central Station is you can't use a tripod on the landing of the stairs but you're able to on the ground level of the station.Inspiration
This was absolutely a stroke of luck and really lucky timing. I wanted to capture long exposures indoors that blurred the travelers and the hustle and bustle of the city but towards the end of the time I was there, the couple kissing in the photo started a photo shoot. Above me on the landing is another photographer who was directing them to stand in a "kiss pose" for an extended period of time so the people around them would be blurred. I really lucked out and ever since then, I wished I had talked to that photographer and offer her the images I shot as well.Editing
For this photo I did some pretty straightforward editing. I did a lens correction because of the barrel distortion from 10-22 ultrawide. For color I did a bit of saturation combined with some color bleaching to tone down some of the color harshness. Other than that, some dodging and burning throughout and manual sharpening on the couple. In my camera bag
I've always tried to travel as light as possible, my back really can't handle lugging around a heavy load anymore. In my bag...camera body, two lenses (usually my 14mm prime and a 24-105), some filters, an intervalometer and some cleaning cloths and a spare battery. I use a Think Tank Change Up V2.0, I like how the weight is evenly distributed and it buckles around my waist as well as over my shoulder.Feedback
If you're doing a photo shoot for someone it would be fairly easy to set something up like this. You just need to plan ahead of time for an appropriate location and know that there will be unforeseen things since this is in the midst of the public. For me, this was just happenstance and luck for being in the right place, at the right time.
