The photo is taken in my studio in Melbourne. I am lucky enough to share this space with another very talented photographer who had been an inspiration to my work.Time
My favourite thing about studio photography is that I can shoot any time of day! As I shot this with a shallow dof, I did have to draw the curtains to block some of the ambient light.Lighting
This is shot with a simple two light set up. The key light was a beauty dish with a grid set at a 45 degree angle. Most of the time I just experiment - I love that so many different results can be achieved with just one or two lights.Equipment
I took this shot with my trusty 50mm lens and Nikon D700 camera body. I used two strobes - one with a grided beauty dish.Inspiration
Sarah Belle (model) approached me on instagram and suggested a few concepts. After scouring Pinterest and google images, we decided on glitter as the theme and got a mua (Samantha Inglis-Purton) on board. The three of us worked well together and the final image is a result of our combined creative vision.Editing
It always takes me a while to process an image as I feel like it's not my strong point! In this image I have used frequency separation on the skin. Also slightly softened using blending modes and slightly desaturated. I've enhanced the shadows using curves / layer masks to give a bit more depth. Also selectively sharpened and enhanced the yellow in the brows. Lastly, I usually avoid vignetting, but decided last minute to add it in.In my camera bag
I don't have a lot of gear in my camera bag - a couple of fixed lenses (50mm and 85mm) and a heap of flat batteries haha. I believe you don't need an enormous amount of gear to get a good shot.Feedback
To achieve something similar, shoot with a wide aperture to get the bokeh effect with the glitter. Work with an experienced model and make up artist if you can!
