Location
This photo was taken on Upper Cranberry Lake in Township 30, Maine. We own a camp on this lake and it's the perfect place to get wildlife photos.Time
It was mid afternoon on a warm sunny day. We had decided to go for a canoe ride and see what nature would bring to me to photograph.Lighting
There's nothing special about the lighting except a high sun on a perfect day to soak up the rays.Equipment
This shot was taken with a Nikon D3200.Inspiration
Camp always brings a wide array of wildlife to shoot. Bears, moose, squirrels, porcupines, fish, deer, turtles and many other creatures we find in Maine are just a few examples. Using the canoe provides an opportunity to sneak up on the animals and get great shots.Editing
I'm just learning honestly. I adjust exposure sometimes and sharpen but everything you see is pretty close to as it was shot.In my camera bag
Since I'm just starting out my equipment is simple. I of course have my Nikon D3200. My lenses consist of an 18x55 and a 55x300. My favorite being the 55x300. That lens is what is most often found on the camera as it can capture a wide array of shots. Other than that I keep items to clean my lenses since I'm alway shooting my animals and nose prints seem to be par for the course.Feedback
I can only offer advice to those just starting out. Firstly, don't get frustrated. I can't tell you how many photos I take that end up in the trash. I often shoot 100 shots and keep 5-8. Second, don't be afraid to play with all the setting on the camera. It can be overwhelming but if you don't try them, you'll never understand what they do and are capable of. Lastly, talk to photographers and ask them questions! I have a "go to guy" that I often have critique my work. It's OK to hear about where you need improvement!
