Location
After an hour of scouting for the perfect location, we came across a random field just outside of Barrie, Ontario where this photo was taken. This was more of a fun, spur-of-the-moment shoot and we managed to snap this and a few other greats shots just before the rain came pouring down!Time
This shot can be a little deceiving as it wasn't necessary the bright, sunny day that it appears to be. It was taken around 5pm in the evening on an overcast day in the beginning of August. It was certainly a race against time as the sun kept peeking in and out through the clouds and the rain storm quickly approached. Despite the rain, we had so much fun with this silly shoot!Lighting
We relied on only natural outdoor light for this photo session. Taken in the evening on a slightly overcast day in the Summer to avoid any harsh lighting.Equipment
The camera used for this photo was a Nikon D5200 and my 55-200mm lens (my all time favourite!). No flash was used as we relied solely on natural light with an aperture setting of 4.5.Inspiration
When a friend of mine asked me to take some photos of her in her mother's dress - my heart immediately filled with joy. YES! I knew how much this meant to her and it meant so much to me as well. It's been almost 5 years now since her mother went from being an angel on earth to an angel in heaven. She was one beautiful, inspiring human being - so full of love and light. I am so proud to say that I see all of those amazing qualities in my friend as well. & I know that her mom would be so proud of her too!Editing
Yes! I always do most of my editing in Lightroom. With this photo in particular, I used some of my current user presets to bring out the natural colours in the photo, added some soft center light and a slight vignette to bring your eyes in towards the subject. In my camera bag
In my camera bag, I always carry my Nikon D5200, as well as my two go-to lenses - 55-200mm lens and 50mm prime lens. I also carry a UV filter, wireless remote and an extra battery and memory card, just in case!Feedback
Have fun with it! Be spontaneous, laugh, goof around and make your model feel comfortable. The candid photos are always the ones that turn out best. It may also help to have your camera set to continuous shooting mode - you never know what you may be able to catch in the moment!
