Behind The Lens
Location
This photo was taken in Sintra, Portugal on a family holiday. It was hidden just behind the city buildings that were covered from head to toe in fogTime
Around midday during the easter holidays of 2016.Lighting
The mist and the dark/white contrast of light in the background was an important factor I feel to give this image a mysterious feeling. I had to be patient in order to avoid the fog covering the buildingEquipment
This photo was taken using a Nikon D3200 with a 55mm-200mm lens. No other equipment was usedInspiration
The fog in Sintra definitely gave the whole place a very mysterious eerie feeling. Everyone within sintra seemed to be focusing on the main attractions of the town so I chose to turn away from the palace to look at the other side and this was the view I saw. I liked the abandoned palace look it gave when everyone had been focusing on the more extravagant views.Editing
I used some post-processing to put this photo into black and white and tweak the detail of the building using analogue efex proIn my camera bag
The only equipment I currently have is my Nikon D3200, 18mm-55mm lens, 55mm - 200mm lens and a standard tripodFeedback
Capturing buildings at the right angle can really change the style of a photo and therefore I think it's important for any photographer to always look back or find new angles to shoot from. Being fairly young I don't always have the luxury of expecting my family to wait for me to take the perfect photos on holiday either. Consequently I feel the best advice is to take your camera anywhere and don't let conditions such as fog or mist put you off as it can make for great black and white shots.
