Behind The Lens
Location
Such a field- full of golden flowers. Such a sky- full of golden light. It was the perfect spot. Right on the outskirts of a wildlife reserve, this fallow field gave a perfect backdrop for this senior whose golden hair gleamed in the evening light.Time
It was around seven o'clock in the evening at that time of the year when the spring sun begins to hint of summer.Lighting
I have always been in love with using natural light for portraits. There is something so wonderful about it pulling you in and making you believe you are really there in the moment the photographer captured for you the viewer.Equipment
I used my Nikon 5100 coupled with my Nikon 24-70mm lens and a simple reflector to capture this image.Inspiration
This high school senior, who I was capturing, finds dandelions very beautiful. Because of this, she asked me to incorporate them into her shoot.Editing
I always do my best to keep all of my photos as natural as possible. So, when it comes to processing, I edit the picture only to the point of correcting the short comings of my camera to match what my eyes saw. As with any form of art, each artist will have a different perspective. So, what sticks out for me in a shot will most likely be unique for me. I use this processing time, if my camera did not quite capture it to my satisfaction, to recreate what I loved most about that moment. In my camera bag
Since I usually shoot in out-of-the-way places, I pack light. I take my Nikon 5100 camera, my Nikon 24-70mm lens, my Nikon 300mm lens, my Nikon flash, and my reflector.Feedback
Shooting in natural light can be tricky because the main light source can not be moved around by the photographer. Using reflectors and flashes can help. However, waiting for the right time of day for your shot is the key. Although nature can not be as friendly as we like, being observant of the upcoming weather and anticipating the angle of the sun will give you a greater chance of success.
