Behind The Lens

Location

This photograph was taken at my home with natural lighting. I followed my Greyhound, Gallifrey, and took photographs of her instead of trying to position her. I found that these photographs were much more relaxed.

Time

I took the image at about midday when my Greyhound was having one of her lazy hours. The lighting at this time of the day was great and the house itself was quiet enough so that Gallifrey wasn't distracted and I was interrupted.

Lighting

I love working with natural light and find that my images are much nicer and more natural when I used natural lighting . In this part of my house the lighting comes from in front of my dog model and above her. It's probably the best place I was able to take photographs in the house. I'm glad Gallifrey chose it.

Equipment

This was shot with my Canon EOS 1100D. I didn't use a flash or a tripod and just used my kit lens.

Inspiration

I love capturing photographs of my dog. I like being able to show how healthy and happy she is as when we adopted her she was severely underweight. She's such an elegant and beautiful dog. I'd love to be abe to show people that greyhounds are such an amazing, gentle and friendly breed of dog . They make great pets!

Editing

I edited this photograph in Photoshop. I'm completely self-taught with photoshop so I'm always experimenting and trying new ways of editing. I wanted this image to be sharper and high-key. I achieved this by changing the curves and using the filter to sharpen the image

In my camera bag

I'm only a student so I don't have too much money for lenses and equipment. I usually shoot with my kit lens but I also have a 15mm lens as well as a tripod and a monopod. I aim on saving up for a wide angle lens as well. So far I'm getting by with my Canon and the lens it came with.

Feedback

I think pet photography is best if the dog leads the way. I get my best photographs following my dog around. I find that they're more relaxed when she's in her favourite places. Also, treats. You can't have too many treats!
