Location
I took this picture of San Francisco while I was on a boat heading to Alcatraz in 2004.Time
It was early in the morning and I remember thinking that it looked like we weren't going to see any sun that day.Lighting
The sunlight that quickly popped through the clouds is what I think makes this photo. I was so glad that I captured it as soon as I noticed it because that ray of sun was gone less than a minute later.Equipment
The most interesting thing about this photo was that I took this with my very first digital camera and it wasn't even an SLR but just a Fuji FinePix. An extremely basic camera that was only capable of producing 5 megapixels.Inspiration
It wasn't until the sun broke through the fog that I realized that I had a photo opportunity. I was just hoping that I could hold my camera still enough while standing on that swaying boat. I just loved the subtle silhouettes of that skyline.Editing
There was minimal post-processing but I did add a blue hue to it because it came out more grayish green. I also added a grain reducer to it.In my camera bag
I have been a Canon user since 2004 and I always have in my bag my 5D Mark III, an older 5D Mark II, a 24-70 2.8 lens and a 70-200 2.8.Feedback
Honestly, it was pretty much luck that allowed me to catch this image. I was in the right place at the right time. But if you see something that catches your eye, don't hesitate to take the shot.
