This photo was taken during my visit in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates. I finally got a chance to capture this magnificent building when my friends invited me to go with them. The name of this beautiful religious building was Shiekh Zayed Grand Mosque and it is also the key site for worship in the country. Once you get there, you will be amazed by third largest chandelier in the world and also the largest carpet ever made in the main prayer hall.Time
We visit this beautiful mosque on mid afternoon. It is around 3 to 4pm in the afternoon. When I was shooting on the aisle of the mosque. My eyes was caught by the beautiful cast of light on the domes. I look for the right place to get the right framing and symmetry of the dome and shoot 3-5 frames on it.Lighting
It was a natural light during the mid afternoon from which the sun cast its ray on the one side of the dome. To be able to catch this kind of lighting, you need to be on the right place for symmetry and on the right time of the day.Equipment
The camera that I used on this photo was the Canon EOS 550D with EF 75-300mm lens. I usually shot handheld and without flash because I really love the cast of the natural light which brings more dramatic effect on the subject.Inspiration
There are dozens of beautiful architectural building in Dubai and Abu Dhabi. As an architectural photographer, I cannot slip the chance to visit this magnificent mosque during my stay in the city.Editing
Yes it was a minor post processed image, I shot it in mid afternoon and the sky was plain and blue. I converted it to black and white and adjust the contrast to give more dramatic impact on the lighting on the one side of the building. In my camera bag
First thing I always kept on my bag is my 28-300mm lens together with Nikon D600 Body. I usually used this lens and body for street photography. When I plan to shoot landscape, portrait and architectural buildings, I include my 16-28mm F2.8 and 70-200mm F2.8 lens on the bag.Feedback
First thing that you should check when planning to visit this beautiful place is the right time and month due to the extreme weather in gulf countries, I would advice that you plan your visit between the month of November to April because that time the weather is very nice, you can enjoy the stay in the city without worrying the extreme hot during the long summer. If you want to capture the same lighting condition, it is better to visit around 3 to 4pm and wait for the right moment when the sun cast its ray on the one side of the dome.
