I took this photograph out on the beach of Emerald Isle, NC. We found this spot behind a small sand dune. I'm a little bit self taught and a little bit of schooling but when I shoot I make sure that myself and the model are having fun and I'm not afraid to experiment and try new things.Time
I remember it being around 2ish in the afternoon, it was in the middle of the week and it was a it overcast outside so we wanted to try a beach shoot, knowing that not that many people would be out there. By the time we drove out there the sun was out and people were everywhere! but we found this little secluded spot behind some small dunes where the high tide from the night before had left pools of water.Lighting
The lighting was all natural sunlight so we just tried anything and everything with positions and where the sun was in correlation to her. and BOOM, got this gem out of one of them! I enjoy this one the most because of the amount of contrast between her skin and the sand which helped increase the depth of field for this photograph.Equipment
Just a Canon T1i Rebel with a 50mm 1.8 lens...and a beachInspiration
I had recently watched an interview with Peter Coulson and decided that I wanted to try my hand at some black and white portraits. I watched one of his tutorial videos, took some of his advice and grabbed a model and went to go play in some sand! Funny part is, she doesn't like sad all that much.Editing
I didn't do too much post-processing, just adjusted the black and whites to help the image pop nothing complicated just a little time consuming, but worth it.In my camera bag
Canon T1i rebel, 50mm 1.8 lens, 35-80mm, 70-300mm, batteries, charger, coffee sleeves, rubber bands, plastic sandwich bags, bubble wrap, candyFeedback
NC has beautiful beaches but the sandscape changes quite often and pretty rapidly. But if its a clear day the lighting is always on point out there. as for finding a unique spot to shoot, don't be afraid to go off the beaten path and wander aimlessly. The beach is a family beach but you can find secluded areas if you wander and go against the crowd.
