This was one of the images that made me want to learn photography. It was taken with my first detachable lens camera and before I learned anything about photography or the benefits of shooting RAW. I want to win the trip to NZ because I have been there and I want to go back with my photography skills.

Location
This image was taken off the west coast of Puerto Rico in a town called Rincon.Time
I had been taking photos all day, the sunsets in Puerto Rico are spectacular almost every night. I had all but put my camera away as I went to have a beer at a local bar overlooking the ocean. On schedule the sunset was fantastic, I noticed the local charter boat approaching so I got out the camera and waited for it to line up with the sun.Lighting
With sunsets they do all the work for you.Equipment
At the time I was pretty new to photography, I was shooting with a Sony a65, I believe this image was taken with the kit 24-70 lens.Inspiration
I love Puerto Rico. I have had the pleasure of visiting fairly often over the years. Once I caught the photography bug I could not wait to get back. When I did, I wanted to capture as much of the beauty that the west side of Puerto Rico has to offer. The charter boat/sunset/location all came together at the right time. So much of landscape photography is simply being hyper aware of your surroundings, it is easy to miss fantastic shots if you are not paying attention.Editing
I did some post processing in Lightroom. since shooting this image I have gone back to it as my skills have increased. I always strive to pull the natural beauty out of a given image without making it something it was not or over-processing. This was originally shot .jpeg as it was before I had learned the benefits of shooting raw.In my camera bag
These days I carry a Sony a77 with battery grip, Sony 24-70 2.8, and Sony 70-200 2.8. Occasionally I will rent a fisheye or other wide angle just to mix things up a bit or depending on what I am shooting.Feedback
As I said before, just be aware of your surroundings. I did not set out this day to capture this specific image. I had taken several that day I was really happy about. the situation just presented itself and I took it. It is always a good idea when you go out to shoot to have an idea of what you are after, just as important, be flexible to where your day and creativity take you. Go with the flow and you will be amazed at what you will find. Sometimes it is exactly what you had envisioned and sometimes it is something totally different but equally amazing. That is the essence of what I love about photography.
