Location
The photo was taken at the Butterfly Pavilion in Westminster, Colorado. I'm self-taught and love to challenge myself with different subjects and situations.Time
This was during the morning hours before the Butterfly Pavilion opened to guests. I belonged to a photography group that made arrangements for us to have access early in order to allow the use of tripods and other equipment.Lighting
There was indirect lighting coming in windows both above and behind me and I loved the way it made the pattern on the wings stand out.Equipment
This was shot with a Canon 450D, handheld, and without flash. I have a Manfrotto tripod and rarely ever use flash.Inspiration
The subject landed very close to me and seemed to be just waiting for me to take the shot, so I did.Editing
This was straight out of the camera as I hadn't started doing any post-processing at the time.In my camera bag
I carry a Tamron AF 75-300mm 1:4-5.6 LD, a Canon EF 28-135mm f3.5-5.6 IS, a Canon EFS 55-250mm f4-5.6 IS, a Tamron LD XR Di SP 28-75mm f2.8 and for wildlife I use a Sigma 150-500mm f 4.5-6.0 IS or a Canon 70-200mm f2.8 lens.Feedback
Be patient and follow your subject to get the best lighting and perspective.
