This photo was taken at my home studio in Sheffield, UK.Time
It was a one crispy Saturday morning in March 2015.Lighting
My home studio is situated in our attic. There is only one Velux roof window. For that reason I mainly use strobe lights.Equipment
I used Canon 5D Mark II and Canon EF 50mm f1.4 lens at f18, 1/125sec, ISO 100 and two strobes with soft boxes for this photo.Inspiration
It was actually a family newborn session. When we had a break and mum was breastfeeding their newborn daughter I turned around and saw dad and his little boy holding hands and thought it would make a great picture. This photo was taken spontaneously and it is not posed. I love the connection between the father and his son. The boy's expression is contemplative but at the same time he is obviously happy in his father's company. The photo is focused on the scale of the little boy and highlights the difference in size between the little and big people.Editing
I tweaked contrast, smoothed the skin and blacken the black background a bit more in Photoshop CS6.In my camera bag
I am a Canon girl. I have a Canon 5D Mark II camera. For studio shoots I mainly use EF 50mm f1.4 and Canon EF 24-70mm f/2.8L II USM lenses. For the outside shoots I use the above plus Canon EF 135mm f2 which I love. It has a brilliant bokeh. Sometimes I use my old camera body Canon 20D as a secondary camera.Feedback
