Location
This image has been taken on the Lake Geneva shore close to Lausanne, in Switzerland. This one of the only sandy beach around Geneva Lake and one of the most attractive wooden pier.Time
As I shot it in summer time and its dusk, I'd say it was around 9pm.Lighting
Dusk brought some pretty cool soft colors in the sky and the moving clouds add a dynamic aspect to the imageEquipment
I used my main gear which is an old D700 Nikon body with the Nikkor 16-35mm I decided to make a long exposure in order to get the cloud movement. I used a B+W ND1000 filter, a manfrotto tripod and a remoteInspiration
I personnally like piers very much and there are not so many around Lake Geneva. This wooden pier is the main reason why I decided to shoot that spot. Luckily, the dusk and windy conditions added mood to the shotEditing
As I always shoot in RAW, of course I did process my image. Not fancy settings but basic stuff such as level/curve adjustments, contrast, saturation and vignetting. In my camera bag
My main body is the old Nikon D700 but I still keep my aps-c D7000 body. The lenses I have are 16-35mm (4), 70-200 (4), 35-70 (2.8) and the Samyang 14mm for astro.Feedback
Well, I'd say the perseverence is the key. Light is very random so luck is an important factor. I've been to this beach many times before getting that shot and I suggest to be very relentless. Another advice I could give is to keep beeing positive because it is easy to get disappointed about lighting after a few failure. Never stop trying and someday you will hopefully be rewarded :-)
