Location
I captured this picture from Parwanoo Bypass on the Himalayan Expressway - the highway connecting Chandigarh (Punjab) with Shimla (Himachal Pradesh) in North IndiaTime
It was during blue hour that I captured this image, ie. the transition period between sunset and darknessLighting
The Shivalik ranges in the background could be seen due to the blue hour, which otherwise wouldn't have been possible in pitch dark conditions.Equipment
I used my Nikon D3000 with the 18-55 mm kit lens mounted on a tripod.Inspiration
I've always been fascinated by the concept of long exposure photography and wanted to experiment the various genres including capturing light trails. Also, being a hilly terrain the location was apt for light trail photography where the highway curves could be perfectly accentuated by the vehicular lights. I would have driven on the highway 3-4 times searching for the perfect spot from where the image could be captured. I was lucky I found one.Editing
Nothing much except some minor adjustments in contrast, saturation. In my camera bag

Finding the perfect vantage point is a key aspect in capturing vehicular light trails. Essentially the spot should be at a higher elevation so as to be able to showcase the road and its curves with the trails. Also, it would be nice to have vehicles running on both sides of the road to capture both the front and tail lights which kind of makes the image complete. Try capturing images during blue hour to showcase the landscape which may add interesting dimensions to the image.
