Behind The Lens

Location

I took this photo in my kitchen. I started in my room, but I couldn't find something that had an interesting shadow. After taking a couple shots I went to my kitchen to find something interesting. Honestly, I was really tired so I wanted to make the shot as quick as possible so I could go to sleep, so I took my camera to the kitchen and shot it there.

Time

This photo was taken in the middle of the night around 3 am. I was exhausted and about to go to sleep and suddenly I had an idea for a photo. I stood up, grabbed my camera and tripod and started taking photos.

Lighting

I don't own any flashes or expensive lightning. To create the shadows I had to use my desk light that I normally use when I'm doing homework. I like to think creative by using the things I already have around me. Sometimes I use the build-in flash on my create lighting, but this doesn't work all the time.

Equipment

This was shot on my Canon 600D with a Canon 24-105mm L IS USM. I used a 'Bilora Safari II' tripod that I got from my parents a while ago. Apparently this tripod is maybe 20 years old (I think) and it's still doing well! I used a tray and putted it upside down to use it as a 'floor'.

Inspiration

I was scrolling through a couple inspiration websites to create new ideas. I normally scroll through these to give my creativity a boost. Looking at the work of others inspires me a lot. I saw this one photo where a girl was standing in front of a big wall and behind her there was a different shadow. I thought about doing the same, but with something different.

Editing

I only use Photoshop for my photos. First, I edited the 2 photo's and then used some Photoshop magic to turn it into one piece. The hardest thing was to shoot 2 photos of different objects, but on the exact same place. Luckily I could adjust it a little in Photoshop.

In my camera bag

I mostly carry my Canon 600D with my 24-105mm L lens in my backpack. I like to shoot photos with natural light, so I don't use any flashes most of the time. I don't like to carry that much with me, because it gets too heavy and annoying after a while. Plus it's more challenging to bring less with you to be more creative.

Feedback

Be creative! Use everything you have around you. You don't need expensive stuff to make beautiful photos. Just play with your camera and try to look at things differently. You will be amazed by how easy it is to create something with only the things you already have.
