Location
This photo was taken in Tatibazar, Dhaka. It is located in the old part of Dhaka, where history belongs.Time
It was end of noon, when the lights weren't harsh nor were too soft.Lighting
It was daytime, and at that certain time and place where she was sitting, I found the light perfect. It made the look of her face clear and the colours popped.Equipment
This was shot on a Canon 1100D, 50mm f/ 1.8 prime lens. Nothing else was involved.Inspiration
In Hinduism, Holi, also called Holaka or Phagwa. It is an annual festival celebrated on the day after the full moon in the Hindu month of Phalguna, which is in early March. It is also known as festival of colours. On this festive day, me and my friends were walking around and enjoying the festival from early morning. It was end of noon when we finally decided to go home. Tama, one of my very close friend and sister, was very tired and wanted to rest for a while. While she was sitting nearby, I saw her lost in her thoughts. I found it really attractive, as a beautiful girl covered with colours are simply lost in her own thoughts.Editing
Although portraits normally require much of processing, but this particular photo required a very minimal processing; as because of the nature of the photo. The place was very colourful and so was she. I simply enhanced the colours, made them pop by correcting the contrast. I also used brush in specific areas to bring out the original colours as it was in real.In my camera bag
The first thing I pack is my 50mm f/ 1.8, as it allows more light in the photo and a lower dof. I also pack my all time favourite 18-55mm, because this is a perfect lens for any kind of photograph- this is what I believe. Another interesting lens I have in my bag is Lensbaby Spark. Whenever I want to experiment with a particular photo, I simply bring it on. Finally, I keep a reflector for the fill light.Feedback
Holi is a festival of colours- anyone can join the festival. As the colours includes liquid colours as well, the camera must be covered with plastic or raincover properly. One must enter the festival with an open mind, do not hesitate to shower in colours. The more involved you get, the more opportunities for such colourful portraits open.
