This shot was taken during a "pinup photo contest" at annual Trash&Burn American car meeting in Croatia in 2014. To cut the story short, pinup girls make their best appearances, jump in their coolest outfits, hot rod fans/owners park their cars, and a hole bunch of photographers round up on the field set to get their shot. You can choose a model, and a car to shoot and then circle shoot :). So, while I was taking a rest I was just browsing around and took this shot in movement while lovely Miss Bo was posing for a fellow photographer. I guess it's a lucky one since in this particular model car scene set I didn't work directly with the model and in my own setup. :)Time
I remember it being a very hot afternoon, around 5 o'clock, maybe closer to 6 PM, the sun was still rather high and I tried my best to avoid harsh highlights and burnouts.Lighting
It was all natural afternoon sunlight, used no flash, no help, just my telephoto lens with a sun shade. I love natural light photos. As I wouldn't quite call myself a pro and am mostly self - taught I play and experiment with what I've got at a given moment. I've learned to react fast, and use the most from what I know and have.Equipment
Shot with my Nikon d700 and Sigma 70 - 200 lens 1:2.8, no flash, no tripod, nothing additional, just my steady hand.Inspiration
I had a chance to shoot miss Bo earlier, but as I mentioned, in this particular set up the two of us didn't interact, I just stumbled upon the scene where she posed for other photographers, jumped in, took the photo and moved on. I loved the angle and the fact that her look was focused away from me, I felt it'll build up some extra mysterious aura around her. It was an unexpected and impulsive, spontaneous shot. I usually work on impulse and bring in much emotions into my work, and I also love when I manage to transfer moods and emotions onto my photographs.Editing
I don't like too much post processing, just some exposure, highlights -shadows and levels adjusting to enhance the depth of the colors and contrast. In my camera bag
I always carry all that I've got, which is not much. My Nikon d700 body, nikkor 50 mm 1:1.4, which I use in 75 % of my work. I love the DOF it can create which gives me the freedom to focus on a particular subject I feel connected to at the time of shooting. Other than that I pack my second Nikkor, 28 mm1:28, Then sigma 70-200 and Sigma 17 - 70.Feedback
As with many other aspects in my life I take photography as a game, always, but that doesn't make it any less serious to me. Play, try, make errors, repeat and try again. It's all about trials and errors, will and tenacity. Go out on a sunny, beautiful day, take a beautiful girl, woman, child, whoever, and just have fun.
