I took this photo at the Harper Cemetery in Harpers Ferry, West Virginia. I photograph cemeteries around the World and thought that the history of this town might make an interesting cemetery. My expectations were exceeded when I got there and saw a great historic cemetery in a beautiful town with trains passing by day and night (I love the sound of train whistles). This photo is the cover photo for my book "Ghosts In The Cemetery II, Farther Afield" and captures the flavor of the experience of being there. I shoot with a Nikon D300 and wide angle to normal zoom.

Location
The photo was taken in Harpers Ferry, WV. I am a cemetery photographer with 3 books entitled "Ghosts In The Cemetery". I planned this trip to Harpers Ferry as I had heard that the cemetery there was a beauty. The weather was foggy, but starting to clear to the West.Time
I usually shoot at just before sunrise or after sunset, but this was taken in the late afternoon, just around sunset.Lighting
I like overcast days as the colors are super saturated, but this was taken as the fog was burning off and the sky was clearing to the west.Equipment
I use a Nikon D750 and used a Nikon 24 to 70mm zoom.Inspiration
The location, the sky, the weather, the great tree in the cemetery.Editing
I post process in camera RAW and use Photoshop CS 6 to crisp up the photo and bring out the less obvious details. In my camera bag
Nikon D750 w/24-70 zoom, tripod, occasionally Nikon 70-200 zoomFeedback
You've got to be there to get the photo. I travel around the World looking for old and interesting cemeteries. I don't think anyone is taking similar photos. Seek out the unusual sites where others fear to tread. Don't be afraid to head out on a miserable rainy day. The skies eventually clear enough to get a few clouds and sunshine. Sundown and Sunrise and the times just before and after seem to work best for me.
