Behind The Lens

Location

I was walking around my garden wondering why I had no bugs to photograph when i spotted this beautiful specimen

Time

It was taken around 8am, there was alot of dappled light everywhere but no shadows on this buttlerfly, i hoped that it would still be there when i came back from getting my camera and tripod. I was very lucky as it sat there for at least half an hour.

Lighting

the lighting was perfect, it sat on a leaf and there were no shadows

Equipment

this was taken with Canon 7D, 100ml Canon Macro on a tripod

Inspiration

At the time I was really into macro photography and really loved taking photos of bugs, insects etc. the fact that this butterfly was happy just to sit there for so long and allowed me to take its picture from all different angles was amazing.

Editing

the only post processing was cropping and adding a bit of contrast and some vibrance

In my camera bag

i normally carry my canon 5D mark III, my 24-105, 70-200 both canon and if i am doing bird photography i will take my 150-600 tamron. I also take my remote control, spare camera battery and spare CF card and of course a lens cleaner

Feedback

patience, patience patience and of course a little bit of luck, learn to stand still in one spot if you're walking in the garden, park, forest. stop and listen, things will start popping up around you that you would not have seen if you just walk through.
