Location
Sagada, Mountain Province in The Philippines.Time
The hardest part is waking up at 4:30 am from a really cold morning, followed by almost an hour hike to the top of a mountain. But the effort (and few complaints from my kids) was well worth it!Lighting
Lighting was provided by nature! I just focused on the horizon beside the rising sun.Equipment
I used a Nikon D7000, on a flimsy old tripod, wedged on cracks and pine tree roots. I used a Nikkor 18-105mm lens, set on manual mode with VR to "off" and fitted with a polarizing filter. Set the camera to remote trigger and fired away while my kids and their cousins raised their hands, while shouting out to the mountains (mainly to hear the echoes bounce back) reveling on the magnificence of the sun rising above the clouds.Inspiration
The silhouette of my kids and their cousins marveling on the magnificent sunrise is a sight to behold, an experience that I hope they will treasure forever. I had to take the shot for the hiking trip might not happen again anytime soon and hopefully, capturing the moment might trigger happy thoughts when they 're adults.Editing
No post processing here...In my camera bag
Besides the camera and a prime lens, I always bring some micro-fiber towels to clean up the lens. Also brought a shower cap in case it rains.Feedback
Waking up on the right time and planning ahead saves you precious time. I asked the locals the day before on what to expect, the terrain, the weather and the best site for the best view of the sunrise above the clouds. Chocolate bars helps give the energy for the hike (while keeping he complaints down from the long tiring hike)!
