I took this photo of my niece in my home, in our play room.Time
It was mid-day.Lighting
Our play room has giant windows wall to wall. Beautiful, natural light streams in almost all day- really, until the suns sets. It makes it my favorite room in the house to shoot in. I love natural light :)Equipment
This was shot with my first camera, a Canon Rebel xsi, and the standard 18-55mm lens.Inspiration
Well, my niece. She's chalk full of personality, and loved to wear my hats. I have a bowler hat that I love, so I gave it to her, and she donned it quite nicely. She's a ham and has always loved having her pictures taken.Editing
This was taken maybe 4 years ago. I would edit it differently today. I was still learning about post-processing then. [I always am, but I definitely wasn't as good then!] I'm glad I stuck with a sepia and didn't over-do it, as it would have ruined the photo for sure. I edited this, still do to this day, with Lightroom. In my camera bag
Now- Canon 5D MKII; lenses- 1.8 24mm, 1.8 85mm; Speedlite 430 EX II flash. Not much, I'd love more.. [zoom lenses..! haha], but I get by with what I do.Feedback
Hang out with kids... ;) Really, the more you can tolerate their craziness, the more you'll grow to love capturing just that, and realize that waiting for them to *finally* turn and look at you during their running and jumping.. is so worth it. If a kid won't warm up to you, or your camera, take a quick picture and show it to them. They LOVE it. Oh, and be prepared.... don't put that camera down! haha. They're tricky! I've found that natural lighting is better for kiddos, because natural lighting won't malfunction during that perfect moment. But I'm not an expert on flash. So that is just me.
