Behind The Lens

Location

This photo depicts the Friendship Bridge (Ponte da Amizade) in Macau. This is the third road link between Macau's Peninsula and the Island of Taipa.

Time

This shoot was done late afternoon when the sun was already at a lower level and was enlightening the bridge from left to right.

Lighting

All the light is natural. As I mentioned earlier, the image was done late afternoon when the sun was already down and that was the first thing that caught my eye was the way the warm tones touched and enlightened the bridge from left to right.

Equipment

This is a pretty old photo (potentially around 2010-2011), so I used my Canon EOS 7D with an EF 100-400mm f/4.5-5.6L IS from the first series. The shoot was done handheld.

Inspiration

Precisely the shape of the bridge as although we cross it several times a day and we know the double-bump shape of it (which for Chinese culture resembles a Dragon's Back) from this angle and making use of the 400mm can pop-out those shapes and ramps.

Editing

Slight contrast and general light adjustments, almost like the original raw file

In my camera bag

Nowadays I mostly carry around my Canon EOS R7 with the 18-150mm kit lens. For versatility and to get something on my path that catches my eye. Sometimes I had some primes, either a 24mm f2.8 or a 50mm f1.4 for specific purposes.

Feedback

Find the "right" angle. Walk around. Find the right spot to shoot from. Most of the work was to explore the location where I could have this vision which is different from most shoots of this bridge that are sideviews.
