Location
My oldest son and I went on a roadtrip to the Grand Canyon and spent a day along the South Rim.Time
Late afternoon on a mostly clear day. The sun cast harsh shadows across the canyon and canyon walls, so I got some fun shots with the Canon set on 11-16 Depth of Field setting to keep as much in focus as possible.Lighting
Late afternoon sun was better for long shadows and although the sky was clear of clouds for the most part, I like how the photos turned out.Equipment
Canon EOS 5D and 5D mark 3.Inspiration
I love outdoor photography and trying to capture the vastness of the Grand Canyon is always a fun challenge, mixed in with trees, sometimes people to help get a feeling for the size and distances there.Editing
Yes, processed the RAW files in Photoshop Elements using some automatic settings, but making most of the adjustments individually (i.e. exposure, color enhancement (not too much!)In my camera bag
Two Canon cameras, 5D and my more recent 5D mark 3, a variety of zoom lenses (24-105 mm, 70-300mm), and I've learned the hard way to bring 4-5 batteries, and always have one charging in the car.Feedback
The Grand Canyon south rim is spectacular, I highly recommend sunrise / sunset for great shots. There aren't as many people in the early morning, so I was able to get the shots I wanted, but it was 24degrees fahrenheit and was glad I brought gloves and a wool cap.
