These two Eastern Black Swallowtail Caterpillars (Papilio polyxenes) were headed in opposite directions on a Dill stem. I planted the entire outside of my garden this year in wild flowers to attract pollinators of all sorts. Little did I know that I should have been planting a lot more dill as that is where I found about 15 eastern black swallowtail caterpillars in an assortment of instars munching happily away. These caterpillars also have a bright orange set of inflatable horns they will flash as you if you bug them to much.
