I was born in England in 1942, in the village where there was a bunch of these stationed My families memories were of all those young men making themselves at home in our thatched cottage before they were off to war again.

Thanks for that. I know it's easy to at this (and other) aircraft and appreciate it as a work of art (I'm a gear head so yes it's a work of art). Also easy to romanticize about the era it was active. All very good but to take a moment to imagine the young guys that went on these missions in incredibly tough conditions is really amazing. I had a friend in high school whose father was a tail gunner, shot down twice and both times found his way back and got right back on board. My dad was in the Navy and participated in multiple landings in Europe. Neither of these guys ever talked it until late in life after a lot of prying. Truly an amazing generation. Very thankful..
