Ashcroft, Colorado was a booming silver town in the late 1800's. By 1885 the town was home to about 3,500 people, had six hotels and 20 saloons. However, [by the end of the 1880's] there were only 100 summer residents and $5.60 in the town coffers. By the turn of the 20th century, only a handful of aging, single men lived in Ashcroft. This interesting town is was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1974 by the Aspen Historical Society. Sources: American Memory Collection, Ashcroft, Colorado.
