I usually have bottles of water and sausage rolls in my shopping trolley, to hand to homeless men on my walkabouts. I thought that it was going to be just another one of those times.
I had forgotten that seldom anyone takes any notice of them, let alone talking to them.

He told me about joining the Civil Service, first. That was before discovering that washing cars was more fulfilling!

From there, he found himself in the merchant navy, taking him to the far-flung corners of the world, including the Persian Gulf.

He told me about marrying a Muslim woman, which didn't work out. I forgot to ask him whether that meant he had to lose his foreskin before consummating his marriage!

Finally, as the Tory government decided to pick up the Cuts where the New Labour had left off, he has now ended up homeless!

The Old Bill, i.e. the Metropolitan Police patrols try to keep him out of site, by keep moving him around.

Still, his spirit has remained high. He pointed to Hyde Park's Italian Garden and told me that now, here was his garden!
