Wat Phu Khao Thong, Phra Nakhong Si Ayutthaya District is an old important temple. The chronicles of the people of the old capital states that King Ramesuan had it built in B.E. 1930. In B.E. 2112 the King Bayinnaung of Burma commanded his troops to attack Ayutthaya, he ordered the large Mon style chedi to be built as a memorial for his commission in this temple. Later, King Boromakote renovated it and changed the upper part of the chedi from a Mon style to a Thai one with with 12 indented corners. In front of the temple, there is the statue of the King Naresuan, the Great erected by the Fine Arts Department.
