It may seem like this bald eagle is battling some form of possession, but in reality, this is one of the traits that makes them such formidable hunters. Like a handful of other species, eagles have a third eyelid, also called a nictitating membrane. It essentially allows them to blink while still maintaining their sight of prey. As practical as this attribute is, seeing a photo of it can cause nightmares... at least for trout.
