Trekking to the base camp of Mount Everest in January is a solitary experience because the extreme cold not only keeps tourists and trekkers away, but the native people also move to lower altitudes to escape the winter. It gave me time to enjoy the presence of the famous mountains I had heard about for years! Ama Dablam, Lhotse, Everest... I felt like I was walking among the stars of mountaineering!
