Sometimes you go to places in the world, you actually don’t know. You only see some pictures or read some things about it on the internet, heard stories of people or seen newsflashes on the television. For me was Israel that kind of place.

While I was travelling in Thailand I met a guy from Israel. When I was back in the Netherlands we kept in touch. Later he invited me to come to Israel, to Tel Aviv where he lives. I didn’t know what to expect up there. To be honest, I thought a bit conservative. But when I arrived in Tel Aviv and saw the city, I saw a place with a lot of diversity. I saw conservative and progressive people live next to each other. I really enjoyed it to see the people living that way.

On the beach there was a perfect moment to capture the diversity of Tel Aviv. So I made the photo, where you can see that everybody is doing their own thing.
