As you set out for Rome, pray the voyage is long, full of adventure, full of discovery. Don't be afraid: you won’t encounter cyclops or dragons unless you bring them along inside your soul. / Rome will give you a marvelous journey. Without her, you would not have set out. She will have nothing left to give you. / And if you find her ideas poor, Rome won’t have fooled you. Wise as you will have become, so full of experience and knowledge, you will have understood by then what a voyage to Rome means. (File#: 2015-04-02 09.55.35_DxO). (Paraphrasing 'Journey to Ithaca').

An incongruent but majestic magic of architecture. Once the soul of Rome and to a certain extent it still is, this was where joy and terror co-existed. Whilst some are being entertained, others encountered their cyclops, dragons ... and worst. A magnificent tribute to the past glory of Rome and empire it was also the Roman standard for cruelty injustice and debauchery. The circular walls that ringed the huge arena were unheard of, let alone seen .... in the ancient world. Whoever started it it was certainly the Romans who honed it to perfection raising elliptical Coliseums where they rules and sculpting awesome domes to cathedrals and the like. Amphitheaters there are... but quite unlike the one in the heart of Rome.
